Email of the Day: I Thank My Wife Every Day For Saying "Yes!"

I still remember the day I asked Vicky to marry me. I’d told her on our second date that I wasn’t going to do anything physical (kiss, hug, etc.) until it was with the person I was going to marry, and I didn’t want her to think that was because of HER. I didn’t want to, because physicality interferes with the mind and body. I was holding those things for my wife. So, we didn’t kiss before then. Since we married (47 years last month), I tell her two things every day: “I love you,” and “Thank you for saying yes.” She responds with “Thank you for asking.”

When I asked her to marry me, she didn’t say anything, but she grabbed me and kissed me! I pulled her off and said “You didn’t say ‘yes’ yet!” She grabbed me and kissed me again, and said “Did you hear it THIS time?”

I treasure her more than everything. We have three grown children and seven grandchildren. We walk at least a mile every day, and it’s usually hand-in-hand. We listen to you daily and talk about life and how we can make it better. People see how happy we are and ask us how long we’ve been together. Then they ask how we’ve made it so long. We tell them that we agreed to drop the word “divorce” from our vocabulary, and we never go to bed angry. Twice in our marriage, we stayed up all night to talk out our problems.

If you do read this on the air, tell my Vicky again “Thanks for saying ‘yes!”
