I found you when I was in the midst of doing at least three of the Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives. I was 25 and making my weekly three-hour drive to see a man who was not the example of someone you’d be proud for your daughter to marry. It was late at night and your voice came on the radio, talking to a young woman around my age who may as well have been me. Even though I had been raised by loving parents, your words gave me the kick in the pants I needed. That was the last time I made that drive.
Shortly after, I met a real man. I’m now 30 and have been married to him for three years. We welcomed our first son last year. I spend my days listening to my son’s sweet giggles while my husband works hard to support us. I get to see that precious boy’s face light up at the sight of me after every nap and I’ve truly never had a more important job. You’ve influenced my life in many ways since that first radio encounter, and indirectly influenced my friends and family, as I’m always telling them what “Dr. Laura would say!”
