When I was 18, I stumbled across your radio program while trying to find the Greatest Hits station. I had just started dating a sleaze bag. But, after listening to you, I decided to kick him to the curb! Years later, I married my husband and got my new job as the stay-at-home mom of two small children. The pay's not great, but in my free time I get to listen to your Deep Dive podcast. I was doing just that on a recent walk with my baby when I heard men calling for your help to fix their marriages. I couldn't help but tear up – not because I related to their situations, but rather because I was so grateful. I have not had a perfect marriage. My husband's a pilot who's gone a lot, and that gets hard at times. But we are thriving because we turn towards each other when things get tough instead of away, just like you suggest. He's a wonderful protector and provider. A rockstar to me!
So, after my walk, with the babies sleeping and with your catch phrase of “choosing wisely and treating kindly” in my head, I ran inside, stripped my husband’s clothes off, and treated him like the king he is. Before he left later that day for a 4-day work trip, he asked me what he had done to deserve the “quickie.” I told him, “quickies are for boyfriends, and you are mine.”
