Email of the Day: Why I Loved My Wife

By Dr. Laura on October 20, 2020
Why I Loved My Wife

I heard your program recently when husbands called in and told you why they loved their wives.  My wife loved me with everything she had, telling me β€œI just want to make you happy.”  She demanded respect, and she got it from me, with no drama.  When something made her particularly happy, she took my arm, gave me a hug, put her head on my shoulder and squeezed.  I always knew then that everything was β€œright” in her world and mine.

When we went on long-distance trips, seemingly out of nowhere she would say β€œI love you,” and I’d respond, β€œI love you more.”  I don’t think I ever said to her β€œI love you” out of the blue like she did. She raised our three children, and there are no snowflakes among them.

Our song was β€œUnchained Melody.” Whenever we were at an event and it started to play, I stood up, because I knew she would be looking for me.  I would see her smile with a sparkle in her eye and we would dance.  I didn’t even have to speak; I could feel her love.  Before she died last December, she told me she did not want me to be alone if she did not make it.  Who does that?

These are only some of the reasons why I loved my wife through the 38 years of marriage we had together.  Thanks for reading!
