Email of the Day: Grateful to Be a Stay at Home Mom

By Dr. Laura on March 27, 2024
Woman holds the hand of a young teen girl

I was grateful for the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom to my two daughters, now in their 20s. I loved being at home with them. It was amazing to be there for all the milestones. But I was never more grateful than when things went wrong. Being a stay-at-home mom does not preclude your children from having mental or physical illness.

When my youngest was a teen, she had anorexia. Her condition required treatment for years. Because I was at home with her, I was able to organize and provide the care and supervision she needed to recover. I did not have to decide how to juggle her care and my job because she was my job. She is now a thriving healthy young adult!

I have even started to volunteer, and now I have a job supporting children with eating disorders. Life is so incredible. It challenges and it provides.

Sincerely,

Lisa
